Welcome to O vegetariano (the Vegetarian)!!

My name is Sandra Gomes Silva. I’m a nutritionist and I’m vegetarian.

I created The Vegetarian in order to help who is or want to become vegetarian. In this blog I will share everything I know about vegetarian food and nutrition, besides (really) simple, (very) fast and (excessively) delicious recipes!

I am the author of the manual “Guidelines for a healthy vegetarian diet“, launched by the Health General Directorate under the National Program for Healthy Food Promotion (PNPAS) in December 2015.

(Nutritionist member 2340N of the Portuguese Order of Nutritionists).

My journey:

I graduated in Nutrition Sciences at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto (2009/2013).

In 2013, I got the Certificate of Pedagogical Competency – Initial Pedagogical Training for Trainers, for which I am also a trainer/coach.

I made my academic internship at Hospital de Braga and the Municipality of Barcelos in 2013. Later, I performed two internships: one in a Nursing Home (Centro Social de Bairro), in 2014, and one in a hospital (Centro Hospitalar Médio Ave, EPE) (2014-2015).

After the release of the Guidelines for a Healthy Vegetarian Food, I had the opportunity to participate as a speaker at the International Congress Vegetarian Paredes de Coura, with the lecture “Guidelines for a Healthy Vegetarian Food” (18/07/2015) and the IV Meeting of Gastronomy of FCNAUP Student Association, with the lecture “Vegetarian Nutrition in the adulthood” (11/18/2015). Later I participated as a speaker in the Course “Vegetarian Nutrition”, framed in Artificial Nutrition Symposium of the Portuguese Association of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (APNEP) (13/12/2015).

In addition to the Vegetarian topic, I’ve already performed several trainings and lectures under the nutrition and healthy eating topics and presented papers in national and international conferences. I also had the opportunity to attend various courses and conferences, national and internationals.

Other areas of interest

Among the various areas of nutrition, I have special appreciation for Oncology nutrition and I’ve participated in the translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the PG-SGA for the Portuguese setting. See more at http://pt-global.org/.
